Linzer Stadion

Linzer Stadion stands on the Gugl hill in Linz, Austria. It was built in 1952 on the site of a former brickworks. The stadium’s name comes from the hill it occupies. For decades it served as a venue for speedway, football and major concerts. Speedway events included a 1961 Speedway World Championship qualifying round. Football clubs FC Blau-Weiß Linz and LASK Linz played most of their home matches here. The stadium hosted concerts by some of the biggest names in music. Pink Floyd played in 1989, Genesis in 2007, Pink in 2010, Bon Jovi in 2006 and Michael Jackson in 1988 before 40,000 fans. These performances drew large crowds and left lasting memories. The venue also adapted over time, installing rail seats for safe standing in 2012. Visitors to the site now find a modern stadium replacing the old one. The new structure keeps the same location on the Gugl hill. The surrounding area remains a green, elevated part of Linz. The stadium’s history is visible in its name and position. The concerts and sporting events that took place there are part of its legacy.
