Kropfbühelkirche

The Filialkirche Kropfbühel stands on a small hill called Kropfbühel, left of the Ötztaler Ache in Längenfeld, Ötztal. It is a single, detached Roman Catholic church surrounded by a low wall. A footbridge crosses the river to reach the church from the valley floor. Built between 1661 and 1666 by master mason Christian Keil, the church shows late-Gothic style outside. Inside, a four-bay nave and a two-bay choir with a three-sided end share the same width and are covered by a barrel vault with pointed, intersecting ribs. The northern tower has a steep, pointed helmet and its bell chamber is marked by a string course. The high altar, made around 1670, is attributed to carpenter Kassian Götsch and sculptor Joseph Witwer. Additional figures were carved by Joseph Götsch. The simple, harmonious volumes and clear lines give the interior a calm, balanced feel.
