IZD Tower

The IZD Tower stands in Donau City, a modern business district in Vienna. Completed in 2001, it rises 140 metres across 37 floors, making it Austria’s third tallest building. The tower’s design came from the partnership NFOG, while Thomas Feiger managed construction. Its glass façade reflects the surrounding skyline and the nearby UNO City complex. Inside, the tower houses large rental offices used by Ernst & Young, Huawei, Estée Lauder and others. The top floor at 130 metres hosts the US representation to the United Nations. In 2013, reports suggested a possible NSA listening post on the roof, though this was never confirmed. Each September, the tower hosts the IZD Tower Staircase Run, where runners climb 630 steps to the 34th or 35th floor. The record time stands at just over three minutes. The building’s height and central location make it a striking landmark in Vienna’s skyline.
