Sandl
Sandl is a hill in the Krems district of Lower Austria, about 70 kilometres west of Vienna. It rises 675 metres above sea level and 66 metres above the surrounding terrain, with a base width of 0.78 kilometres. The land around the hill is mostly rolling, while the western side is flatter. The nearest larger settlement is Weinzierl bei Krems, ten kilometres to the east. The area is covered mainly by mixed woodland.
The hill stands in a region where 62 people live on each square kilometre, so it is fairly well populated. The slopes are gentle enough for walking, yet high enough to give wide views over the surrounding countryside. Its modest height makes it accessible to most walkers without special equipment. The mixed forest on its flanks provides shade and shelter along the paths.
Visitors find a network of tracks winding through the mixed woodland that covers the lower slopes. The summit is grassy and open, offering long sightlines across the rolling landscape. On clear days the view stretches as far as the towers of Vienna to the east. The quieter western side drops gently towards farmland and small villages. The contrast between woodland and open ground makes the hill a quiet place to walk and look out over the region.
