Dänenkopf
The Dehnenkopf is a summit in the Harz Mountains, about 775 metres above sea level. It lies near Torfhaus in the Harz National Park, close to the Harz Nature Park. The surrounding area includes other peaks like the Lerchenköpfe and the Bruchberg. Two small rivers, the Kalbe and the Kellerwasser, rise on its northern slopes. The Kellerwasser flows through the Kellwassertal valley, while the Nabe stream runs nearby to the west.
The Dehnenkopf is worth visiting for its scenic hiking routes and natural surroundings. A checkpoint in the Harzer Wandernadel network is located near the Jungfernklippe rock formation, about 600 metres southwest of the summit. The checkpoint box sits on a gravelled forest track that leads gently downhill towards the Dammgraben water channel. The Dammgraben is part of the Upper Harz Water Regale, a historic system of water management channels. The landscape offers peaceful walks through forests and along streams.
Visitors find a mix of gentle slopes and rocky outcrops around the Dehnenkopf. The B 4 federal road runs close to the north flank, with the Steile-Wand-Straße branching off near Torfhaus. The summit itself is marked by a spot height of 773.6 metres on topographic maps. The area provides clear views of nearby peaks and the valleys below. It is a quiet spot for hikers seeking a connection with the Harz’s natural beauty.
