Mynydd Bach
Mynydd Bach is a range of low hills in the midlands of Ceredigion. It lies between Cors Caron to the east and Cardigan Bay to the west. The highest point reaches 329 metres above sea level. Several small villages dot the landscape, including Bethania, Blaenpennal and Lledrod. The area holds importance in Ceredigion’s cultural history. Llyn Eiddwen sits on its western slope and is protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A country lane crosses the hills, passing near the lake and through Bontnewydd.
The hills are linked to four notable local poets who competed at the National Eisteddfod. They are T. Hughes Jones, B. T. Hopkins, J. M. Edwards and Edward Prosser Rhys. A stone memorial to these poets stands just south of Trefenter near Llyn Eiddwen. Their work forms part of the region’s literary heritage. The hills have inspired generations of writers and artists. Visitors can still find traces of this cultural legacy today.
A walk along the country lane offers views over the surrounding countryside. The route connects Trefenter and Blaenpennal, passing through quiet villages. Llyn Eiddwen remains a peaceful spot for birdwatching and nature study. The protected lake attracts rare species and rare plants. The hills themselves provide gentle slopes for walking and cycling. The stone memorial stands as a quiet reminder of the region’s poetic past.
