Burg Kastenbühl
Burg Kastenbühl stands on a northern spur of the Schiener Berg, 587 metres above sea level, about 1.5 kilometres south-south-west of Bohlingen church. The hilltop once carried a small medieval fortress built on a forty-metre-long plateau. Traces of the old walls, ditches and the remains of a round tower can still be seen today. The castle is thought to have been erected in the 13th century as a fortified strongpoint. Its position gave it wide views over the surrounding countryside and Lake Constance. Over the centuries the structure gradually fell into ruin, leaving only earthworks and masonry fragments. Visitors walk up a quiet forest track to the site. The remains lie among beech and pine trees on an open hilltop. From the plateau there are clear views across the Hegau landscape to the lake below. The air is fresh and the silence broken only by birdsong. The place feels remote despite its proximity to Singen.
