Rondo Theatre

The Rondo Theatre is a small performing arts venue in Bath, set in a converted Gothic-revival church hall built in the early 1830s. It stands in Larkhall, a suburb north of the city centre, where it has served the community since 1989. The building was bought in 1976 by Doreen and Wilf Williams, who turned it into a 105-seat theatre. Later grants from the National Lottery funded new dressing rooms, a foyer and improved technical equipment. The theatre also runs outreach programmes including a youth theatre and scriptwriters group. The theatre presents around 120 performances each year, mixing professional shows with community projects. It hosts new writing, fringe theatre, stand-up comedy, music and small-scale opera. Resident groups such as the Rondo Theatre Company and the Rondo Drama Club rehearse and perform regularly. Local critics often review its shows, with Bristol24/7 praising new writing and the Bath Echo calling one production complex and riotous. Inside, the intimate auditorium seats just over a hundred people. A small bar and foyer welcome visitors before performances. The building retains some original Gothic details alongside modern additions like purpose-built dressing rooms. Outside, Larkhall’s residential streets lead to the theatre, making it a quiet cultural spot in the neighbourhood.
