Parish church in Loosdorf

The Schlosspfarrkirche Loosdorf stands beside the old Schloss Loosdorf in the village of Loosdorf, a quiet settlement in the Mistelbach district of Lower Austria. The church is physically joined to the castle’s east wing, so that the noble gallery above the nave opens directly into the sanctuary. A single tower rises at the east end, its concave stair-tower and concave walls giving the façade a softly swelling silhouette. The church was first recorded as a parish in 1478, though the present late-baroque building dates from 1748–51. Its walls are enlivened by plain plaster bands, stone window frames with keystones, and richly carved rectangular doorways. Inside, a three-part high altar frames a painting of the Coronation of the Virgin from the early 18th century. The side altars in the transepts carry paintings by Josef Kessler from 1886, while two bells cast by Johann Georg Scheichel in 1795 still ring for services. Visitors step from the nave into a transept whose gables carry small round windows. The tower’s upper stage is crowned by a delicate rococo onion dome, and the stair-tower is dated 1748–51 on its concave wall. Red-marble slabs with heraldic shields from 1446 and 1511 line the transept walls, while brass epitaphs record local families from the 16th and 17th centuries. The whole interior, linked to the castle, offers a quiet space where baroque art and noble history meet.
