Ogasilspitze

The Ogasilspitze is a 3,032-metre mountain in the Venedigergruppe range of East Tirol. It stands at the southern end of the Maurerkamm ridge, south-east of the Quirl. The Quirlsattel, a 2,917-metre col, separates the two peaks. To the west lies the Hohe Grube cirque with its small lakes, and to the east the Hochkar with its own pools and the start of the Zopatbach stream. Southwards the mountain drops steeply into the Umbaltal valley. The first ascent was made on 15 July 1904 by I. Hechenbleikner, but the summit sees few visitors. The usual route starts from the Clarahütte, following the Hüttensteig for about two kilometres to the Reggenbachfall waterfall. From there the path climbs grassy slopes beside the stream into the Hohe Grube cirque. Once there, climbers can reach the Quirlsattel and follow the north-east ridge to the top. An alternative is to ascend the steep southern flank directly from the cirque. On the summit ridge the views stretch across the Hohe Tauern National Park. The surrounding peaks include the Quirl, the Quirlwand and the Steingrubenkogel. The climb is graded I and remains a quiet, unmarked mountaineering challenge rather than a popular hike.
