Kammertheater Leipzig

The Kammertheater Leipzig is a modern boulevard theatre in the heart of Leipzig. It sits inside the Strohsack-Passage, a covered shopping arcade in the city centre. The building itself is a protected historic townhouse that once housed the famous Leipziger Funzel cabaret. After the Funzel closed in 2023, the new theatre opened in October 2025 under the direction of Bernd Gnann and Patrick Cambiaghi-Nitschke. Its foyer still contains a small seating area that recalls the old cabaret. The theatre specialises in comedies, musicals and guest performances aimed at adults and families. Its first season featured the musical comedy ABBA – Waterloo in the ball-pit, a co-production with Kammertheater Karlsruhe directed by William Danne. Another early show, Macho Man – Das Comedymusical, brought 1990s hits to the stage. Alongside its own productions, the theatre runs interactive evenings like After Work Aperitivo and Das Duell der Sänger, where audiences take part in the show. Visitors find a compact 175-seat auditorium inside the historic building. The theatre also runs the KL Café, open throughout the day, which serves as a relaxed meeting place. The Strohsack-Passage itself is a short walk from Leipzig’s main market square and the Nikolaikirche. The combination of modern performances and the preserved atmosphere of the old arcade makes it a distinctive spot in the city centre.
