Zollamtsstraße 7

The former main customs office stands in Linz’s city centre on Zollamtstraße. Built in the mid-19th century, it was designed by Ferdinand Kirschner after earlier plans by Paul Sprenger. The building served as the regional finance directorate and customs office for more than a century. Its early-Historicist façade mixes Romanesque and late-Classical details. The main front, finished in late-Biedermeier style, carries a large stone relief of the imperial double eagle above the attic. After the offices moved to the Terminal Tower in 2009, the building was converted into flats and offices between 2013 and 2015. Visitors see the grand stone eagle high on the façade and the late-Biedermeier entrance hall inside. The late-Classical window frames and Romanesque door arches remain clearly visible. The surrounding streets in the inner city still show the scale of 19th-century Linz.
