Afritzer See

Afritzer See is a lake in the Gegendtal Valley, set among the peaks of the Gurktal Alps in Carinthia. It lies just west of the village of Afritz, though its waters belong to the municipality of Feld am See. A low ridge divides it from Brennsee to the north, while several small brooks feed its clear waters. The Afritzer Bach carries the outflow down to the Drava near Villach. The lake is a favourite summer swimming spot, with two public lidos and a campsite on its southern shore. Families gather on the sandy beaches, and children paddle in the shallow bays. Swimmers glide across the calm surface, while others rest on the grassy banks beneath pine and spruce. Paths run along both shores, offering easy walks with views of the surrounding mountains. The water stays cool even in July, and the campsite’s evening barbecues fill the air with the scent of grilled food. In the distance the Nock Mountains rise steeply, their slopes patched with alpine meadows.
