Sender Erfurt-Windischholzhausen

The Fernmeldeturm Windischholzhausen stands in the village of Windischholzhausen, part of Erfurt in Thuringia. It is a 102.1-metre-tall telecommunications tower built in 1992. The tower belongs to the FMT10 type used for broadcasting radio and television signals. It sits on open land outside the village, with distant views across the Thuringian countryside. The site is surrounded by farmland and low hills typical of the region. No public access is provided to the interior or the base. The tower’s importance lies in its role in regional broadcasting. It once carried an FM radio frequency for MDR Thüringen at 94.4 MHz with 2 kW power. In 2018 the site switched from the old DVB-T system to the newer DVB-T2 HD standard. Now it relays high-definition television from ARD, ZDF and freenet TV in full HD. The signals are part of a single-frequency network shared with other transmitters around Erfurt. Visitors see a plain concrete tower rising above flat fields. The structure has a cylindrical shaft and a smaller equipment cabin near the top. A few small aerials and dishes are mounted on the upper section. The surrounding area offers quiet walks along rural lanes with views of the Thuringian Basin. The tower itself is not open to the public, but its presence marks a key point in the region’s modern communications network.
