Albert Mooren fountain

The Albert-Mooren-Brunnen stands in Düsseldorf’s Bilk quarter, beside Moorenstraße. A large fountain built in 1910, it honours Albert Mooren, an eye and charity doctor. Joseph Hammerschmidt designed the bronze figures of children playing above a portrait plaque. The whole ensemble has been protected as a monument since its creation. The sculpture group captures lively moments of youth while remembering Mooren’s medical work. His portrait appears on a bronze tablet set into the stone basin. The artist placed the figures so water gently spills around their feet. Visitors find a quiet square framed by plane trees and low railings. The children’s bronze group remains clearly visible above the water. A low stone surround keeps the monument safe while allowing close viewing. The setting offers a calm pause beside the busy street.
