Karstein
Karstein is a mountain in the Kitzbühel district of Tyrol, Austria. It rises to 1,922 metres above sea level in the central Alps. The land around it slopes gently towards the southeast but becomes steep and rugged towards the northwest. The nearest town is Fieberbrunn, which lies five and a half kilometres to the north-east. The whole area is mainly open grassland with patches of alpine meadow. The mountain is part of the Wilder Kaiser range, a well-known climbing area. Its grassy slopes offer easy walks for families and beginners. The contrast between the gentle southern side and the dramatic northern face attracts both hikers and photographers. The region is quiet, with only thirty-four people living in every square kilometre. Visitors find wide paths that wind across open grassland and small rocky outcrops. The views stretch across the valley towards the Lofer mountains on clear days. In summer the meadows are dotted with wild flowers and grazing cattle. The air is cool even in midsummer, and the silence is broken only by the sound of wind and distant cowbells.
