Evangelische Pfarrkirche A.B.

The Evangelical parish church in Pöttelsdorf stands on the main street in the western part of the village in Burgenland. Built in the neogothic style, it belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Superintendentur A. B. Burgenland and is protected as a listed monument. The church was constructed in 1900–1901 to plans by the Viennese architect Ludwig Schöne. The first small prayer house from 1786, built after the Tolerance Patent of Emperor Joseph II, supplied the rubble for the foundations of the new building. The exterior follows French early-gothic forms, with a tall gabled tower and three doorways under a steep roof. Inside, the three-aisled hall is vaulted in ribbed gothic style over clustered columns with leaf capitals. Original painted ornament and stained glass from the time of construction remain, along with balconies, a pulpit and a five-part organ case. The neogothic altarpiece shows a painting of Christ in Gethsemane.
