Pumucklbrunnen
The Pumucklbrunnen stands in Munich’s western Luitpoldpark beside a children’s playground where Brunnerstraße meets Burgunderstraße. It honours the mischievous wood sprite created by writer Ellis Kaut and was carved in 1985 by Claus Nageler from Starnberg. A tall stone stump rises from the ground and is topped by a bronze figure of Pumuckl dancing on one foot. Every few minutes the little kobold suddenly shoots a three-to-four-metre jet of water into the air as his playful trick. Around the main stump three smaller pillars form a circle, each pouring a gentle stream for visitors to drink or splash. The park itself is a quiet green space, ideal for families with small children. Visitors find the bronze sprite perched above a ring of water-spouts, his pose full of energy and humour. The setting is shaded by trees and close to swings and climbing frames, so parents can relax while children explore. A short stroll from the playground brings the fountain into view, its playful water display drawing smiles from passers-by.
