Abundantia-Brunnen

The Abundantia-Brunnen stands in Benningen am Neckar beside the old town hall and the local wine press. Martin Kirstein of Winnenden cast the bronze figures in 1990. One figure shows Abundantia, goddess of plenty, seated in full view. Her body is heavy with fruit and grain, replacing the usual cornucopia. A second figure, a woman who stares fixedly at Abundantia, stands outside the round basin. Abundantia’s ripe form reflects the village’s place in a long wine-growing district. The contrast between the watcher and the watched sharpens the scene. The seated goddess offers a quiet monument to harvest and prosperity. Her abundance needs no symbolic vessel, only her own overflowing presence. The bronze captures both weight and stillness. Visitors find the fountain beside the old Rathaus and the Kelter. The basin is circular, framing the seated figure at its centre. The staring woman stands just beyond the rim, creating a small stage for passers-by. The bronze gleams in sunlight and casts shadows that shift with the day. The setting is quiet, close to the Neckar’s gentle curve.
