Jagdhaus

Schloss Kleinziegenfeld stands in the village of Kleinziegenfeld in Upper Franconia. The original medieval core castle was expanded over centuries before being demolished around 1800. Only the Jägerhaus, built in 1571, remains today and is widely known as the local ‘castle’. The building is protected as a monument by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation. The site reflects centuries of changing ownership and conflict among noble families. After destruction in 1430 during the Hussite raids, the castle was rebuilt and passed through the hands of the von Aufseß, von Waldenfels, and von Künsberg families. In 1668 the von Schaumberg family expanded it into a grand residence with stables, barns, and a brewery. By the 19th century the estate included over 900 sheep, large fields, and forests covering more than half the village’s land. Visitors find the well-preserved Jägerhaus with its two wings and steep roof. A stone gateway bears the Schaumberg coat of arms above the arch. Inside, a wooden door leads to the living quarters, while a modern studio occupies a new building in the courtyard. The surrounding farmland and woodlands still belong to the Seckendorff-Aberdar family, preserving the rural setting of this historic place.
