St Mark's Church

St Mark’s Church stands near Regent’s Park in London’s Borough of Camden, on Prince Albert Road and Regent’s Park Road in Primrose Hill. Built in 1851–52 and consecrated the following year, it belongs to the Diocese of London and was designed by Thomas Little in the early English style. Kentish ragstone forms its walls, and later changes were made by Arthur Blomfield in the late 19th century. The church was severely damaged during the Battle of Britain in 1940 and rebuilt, being reconsecrated in October 1957. It is recognised as the first completely rebuilt Anglican church in London and holds Grade II listing on the National Heritage List for England. Inside, a stained-glass window from 1957 by Brian Thomas shows St Peter and St Mark. A reredos by Sir Ninian Comper also decorates the interior. Visitors find a calm interior with modern stained glass and fine craftsmanship. The church’s setting near the park adds to its peaceful atmosphere. Its architecture and wartime history make it a place of quiet reflection. The restored building blends earlier design with mid-20th-century renewal.
