Brentford Community Stadium

The Brentford Community Stadium stands in Brentford, West London, on a 7.6-acre site off Lionel Road near Kew Bridge railway station. It sits in the middle of a triangle formed by railway lines, some used for freight. The stadium opened in 2020 and replaced Griffin Park as the home of Brentford Football Club. It also hosts rugby union matches for London Irish. The stadium was used during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 tournament. The stadium’s history began with plans announced in 2002 to move from Griffin Park to a new site near Kew Bridge. After years of delays and negotiations, Brentford bought the Lionel Road site in 2012. Construction started in 2017, and the stadium was completed by 2020. In 2022, the West Stand was converted to allow safe-standing for fans. The stadium was renamed the Gtech Community Stadium following a sponsorship deal in 2022. Visitors find a modern stadium with a capacity of 17,250, designed for football and rugby. The first football match was a pre-season friendly in September 2020, ending in a 2–2 draw against Oxford United. The first competitive match was an EFL Cup tie against Wycombe Wanderers. The stadium has hosted international women’s football, including matches in UEFA Women’s Euro 2022. Rugby union side London Irish played their first match there in November 2020, beating Leicester Tigers. The stadium is linked to Kew Bridge railway station and Gunnersbury Underground station.
