Holy Trinity Church, Everton

Holy Trinity Church stands in the quiet village of Everton, Nottinghamshire, among rolling fields of the East Midlands. Built in the 11th century, it has grown through every century since, with additions such as a widened chancel in 1843 and a southern annex soon after. The 19th century brought major changes: a full restoration in 1841, a lowered floor in 1869, and the removal of all gargoyles. Today it forms part of a joint parish with three nearby churches, sharing care and worship across the countryside. The church’s long history is visible in its stonework and layout. Traces of the original nave survive from the 11th century, while the widened chancel shows 19th-century craftsmanship. The southern annex was added when Everton’s population grew, making room for more worshippers. Despite these changes, the church remains a Grade II* listed building, recognised for its architectural importance. Inside, visitors find a plain but dignified interior with a lowered floor and clear lines from the 1869 restoration. The nave’s early fabric contrasts with the later chancel, giving a sense of layered time. Outside, the church sits at the heart of Everton, surrounded by cottages and farmland, offering a quiet place to stand among centuries of local life.
