Templeton College

Templeton College was a graduate college of the University of Oxford, located at Egrove Park in Kennington, south of the city. Founded in 1965 as the Oxford Centre for Management Studies, its buildings opened in 1969 and were listed in 1999. The college took its name in 1983 after a donation from Sir John Templeton, one of the largest ever made to a British educational institution. Its purpose was to improve professional standards in British management. By 1995 it had become a full graduate college under royal charter. The college specialised in business and management studies, admitting its first graduate students in 1984. In 2005 it transferred executive education to the Saïd Business School. In 2007 two incendiary devices were discovered on site and an animal rights activist was later convicted. Later that year the college agreed to merge with Green College to form Green Templeton College, based on Green College’s site. Visitors to Egrove Park can still see the college’s former buildings, now used by the Saïd Business School’s Executive Education Centre. The site lies south of Oxford near Kennington village. The architecture was designed by Ahrends, Burton and Koralek. Though no longer a separate college, its history remains part of Oxford’s graduate education landscape.
