Museum of Saxon vehicles

The Museum for Saxon Vehicles stands in Chemnitz, inside the historic Stern-Garages. These garages, among Germany’s oldest multi-storey car parks, house around 200 exhibits tracing the story of vehicle building in Saxony. The collection includes bicycles, motorcycles and cars from over fifty manufacturers. The museum’s origins go back to the 1990s when Frieder Bach founded the association and opened in the restored water castle at Klaffenbach. After floods damaged the site in 2002, the collection moved to the Stern-Garages in 2008. Today the museum holds more than 200 vehicles, many in running order, and features unique pieces such as a Seidel & Naumann motorcycle believed to be the oldest in Germany. Visitors walk through the ground floor of the garages, where parked cars form chronological sections. Walls display rare photographs and the garage’s original parking boxes frame each display. The exhibition covers everything from early bicycles to classic cars, offering a clear view of Saxony’s engineering heritage.
