Forstamtsgebäude

The Forstamtsgebäude in Ramsau stands beside the Paltenbach stream, a tributary of the Steyr, at the foot of the Ramsauer Größtenberg. The building is listed as a protected monument and occupies a quiet spot away from the main village. A small wooden hunting lodge first stood here in the late 17th century, later rebuilt in stone. The house appears in the 1583 forest register of Steyr Castle alongside fourteen other forest offices. By the 18th century it belonged to Johann Prandstetter, and in the 19th-century land survey it was called the Lamberg hunting lodge. Austrian Federal Forests now own the property, which still shows its late-19th-century façade. The two-storey building has a simple pitched roof and five evenly spaced windows on the front. Attached to one side are stables and a barn, giving the whole complex a compact farmstead look. The setting, with the stream and mountain backdrop, remains peaceful and unchanged.
