Fachhochschule Vorarlberg (Dornbirn)
Fachhochschule Vorarlberg stands in Dornbirn, a town in the westernmost province of Austria. It is a university of applied sciences, founded in 1989 as a technical school. About 1,300 students study here in programmes linked directly to work practice. The university works closely with local businesses, many of which lead their fields worldwide. Research contracts with high-tech companies show how strong these ties are. The university has won several awards for education and research. In 2016 it received the InnoWard Education Award and the Erasmus+ Award twice. Dr Dana Seyringer won the Science Award Vorarlberg in 2016. The university has also been recognised as a family-friendly institution multiple times. Its engineering programmes are ranked among the best in Austria. Visitors find modern lecture halls and laboratories for microtechnology and digital innovation. The campus includes facilities for business, design and social work studies. The Josef-Ressel-Centre for microtechnology opened in 2014. Students and staff move between classrooms, workshops and research spaces designed for practical learning. The building itself reflects the university’s focus on technology and collaboration.
