Hallenbad Hütteldorf

Hallenbad Hütteldorf stands in Penzing, the fourteenth district of Vienna, on Linzer Straße. The city built it between 1994 and 1997 for 19.3 million euros. A fire during construction delayed the opening. In 1998 the city leased it to a private operator who ran it as Waldbad Penzing until 2008. Financial problems forced the closure that June. The hall reopened on 17 December 2009 after a 3.7 million euro refurbishment. The wave pool was removed and replaced by a 25-metre sports pool and an outdoor pool. A modern energy system and a new roof were installed. On 26 April 2008 the pool hosted Austria’s first underwater football match against Germany, watched by about 800 spectators and 25 journalists who held a press conference beneath the water. Visitors find a 25-metre indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a waterslide and changing facilities. The building’s roof and energy systems were renewed during the upgrade. The site replaced two older municipal baths nearby. Today it is managed by the city’s MA 44 baths department.
