Sielnická hora

Sielnická hora rises to 1 052 metres as one of the highest peaks in the Sielnické vrchy range within the Greater Fatra Mountains in north-central Slovakia. The massif separates the Sisters’ Valley on its eastern side from the upper part of the Kalameny Valley on the west. Its slopes are steep and deeply cut by small gullies, yet the entire mountain is clothed in dense forest. The summit itself carries a narrow lens of older Gutenstein dolomite from the middle Triassic, resting on younger Jurassic and Cretaceous marls and shales. Southwards the ridge drops to the Poľana pass at 845 metres, where the ruins of Liptov Castle stand on the next ridge. Below these southern foothills lie two upland meadows, Predná poľana and Zadná poľana, known for their spring wildflowers. Because no marked trail reaches the top, the peak sees few visitors and offers quiet walks through quiet woods. The contrast between dark dolomite slabs near the summit and the green meadows below makes the place feel remote despite its modest height.
