Dr.-Martin-Luther-Platz 4

The Jagdschloss Gunzenhausen stands on the edge of the old town in Gunzenhausen, a small city in Mittelfranken. It is a two-storey building with a hipped roof, built in 1749 for Karl Wilhelm Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach. The palace was converted from a garden house and still shows its original plaster detailing and corner pilasters. In 1810 the building passed to a local society that later ran a casino there. Since 1974 it has belonged to the town and now serves as a guest house. The upper floor contains a grand hall furnished with historic pieces from the period of its construction. The surrounding park, planted when the palace was first built, retains its mature trees and quiet paths. A tall round tower called the Blasturm stands nearby, marking the edge of the old town walls. The palace itself sits at 420 metres above sea level, giving views over the rooftops toward the surrounding countryside. Visitors walk through the park’s shady avenues and enter the palace through its simple entrance on Dr.-Martin-Luther-Platz. Inside, the restored rooms show the contrast between the original 18th-century structure and the modern single-storey extension added in the 1980s. The hall on the first floor is the most impressive space, with its period furniture and high windows. Outside, the park offers benches under ancient oaks and a glimpse of the town’s medieval defences.
