Bauernhof Klabiner
The Bauernhof Klabiner is a traditional farmstead in the Ganz hamlet of Matrei in East Tyrol. It stands near the St Nikolaus branch church, forming part of a protected rural ensemble with the neighbouring Messner farm. The farm consists of a two-storey dwelling, a linked byre, and a small well-house. The farmhouse dates from the 17th century and shows little alteration since then. Its living quarters include a smoke-kitchen with an open hearth and a parlour panelled in wood, complete with a barrel-vaulted tile stove. The attached byre, rebuilt after a fire in 1778, has a stone ground floor for livestock and a two-storey hayloft above, ventilated by an open balcony. Visitors can walk around the compact farmyard and see the original smoke-kitchen arrangement. The well-house beside the house still holds its carved wooden trough. The ensemble’s simple timber and shingle construction, unchanged for centuries, offers a quiet glimpse of East Tyrolean farm life.
