Preston Road tube station

Preston Road station stands on the Metropolitan line in the London Borough of Brent, between Northwick Park and Wembley Park. It serves the local area of Preston in Wembley and parts of Kenton. The station is in London fare zone 4 and handles only all-stations trains. Fast and semi-fast services pass without stopping between Wembley Park and Harrow-on-the-Hill. The line itself opened in 1880, though the halt did not arrive until 1908. The station’s horticultural displays have won awards and were later revived after years of neglect. In the 1930s the platforms were rebuilt in two stages, moving from one side of Preston Road bridge to the other. Trains now run northbound to Amersham, Chesham, Uxbridge and Watford, and southbound to Baker Street and Aldgate. During peak hours the service increases, with up to ten trains an hour heading north and twelve south. Visitors find a modest station with colourful flower arrangements on the platforms. The brick building sits beside the road bridge carrying Preston Road over the tracks. Buses stop outside, linking the station to surrounding streets. The platforms are wide enough for the frequent trains, and the area remains quiet compared with busier stops further along the line.
