Riddlesworth Hall School

Riddlesworth Hall is a Georgian country house in Riddlesworth, Norfolk. Thomas Leverton designed it in 1792 as a three-storey manor with twelve hectares of parkland. The house passed from Silvanus Bevan III to the Compton-Thornhill baronets, including Sir Thomas and Sir Anthony John. After the second baronet died without heirs, the building became a school in the 20th century. English Heritage listed it Grade II in 1951 for its architectural importance. The preparatory school opened in 1946 for girls aged two to thirteen, later becoming co-educational. It joined Confucius International Education Group in 2015 and was renamed CISRH. The school ran small boarding and day programmes, grouping pupils into four houses named after British women. Points rewarded achievement, effort, behaviour and generosity of spirit. Princess Diana was among its most famous former pupils. Visitors found a stately manor set in landscaped grounds. Inside, classrooms and common rooms reflected its school use before closure. The parkland offered open lawns and mature trees typical of an English country estate. The Grade II-listed building showed fine Georgian proportions and detailing. Its history as a family home and later a small preparatory school shaped the atmosphere.
