Industrieviertel-Museum

The Industrieviertel-Museum once stood in Wiener Neustadt’s Anna-Rieger-Gasse, where a hammer forge and adjoining workshops once operated. The forge building was removed but its heavy anvil foundation and carved stones remained on the forecourt for years. The workshop wing survived, complete with a first-floor office above the gateway arch and an enclosed central courtyard. Karl Flanner, the museum’s founder and former city archivist, gathered objects and documents about the region’s industrial past and opened the museum in 1982. After the house was sold, every item was checked and listed before the collection moved to the smaller Schau! Depot in Adlergasse. The reopening took place in September 2023 before the support association was dissolved the following summer. Visitors now find the remaining exhibits in the compact Schau! Depot in the town centre. The old workshop courtyard and gateway arch are no longer on show, but the relocated stones and anvil base recall the site’s industrial roots. The museum’s early brochures and catalogues preserve Flanner’s research into the forge’s history and the wider industrial quarter.
