Castle Theatre

The Castle Theatre stands in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on the site of the old cattle market. It opened in 1995 as a community organisation. The building houses a main theatre with 503 seats that can be rearranged for standing concerts or cabaret. A smaller studio theatre seats 84, and there is a dance studio and rehearsal room. An art gallery and separate exhibition wall are also part of the complex. The bar and restaurant are run by Parkwood Leisure. The theatre programmes professional shows alongside community theatre, film, and live streams from the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company. It hosts Christmas parties, workshops, classes, and business functions. In June 2016 the theatre closed briefly but reopened in August the same year. Former artistic directors include Dominic Barber, Daniel Austin, and David Bown. Visitors find a main theatre that can host up to 700 standing guests. The studio theatre adapts for cabaret with space for about 150. The building also provides rooms for meetings, rehearsals, and exhibitions. The bar and restaurant offer refreshments during events. The theatre’s programming reflects its role as a cultural hub for Wellingborough and the surrounding area.
