River Aled

The River Aled is a small river in Conwy County Borough. It begins at Llyn Aled on Mynydd Hiraethog beside the village of Llansannan. The river passes through Llyn Aled Isaf and flows north through Llansannan and Bryn Rhyd-yr-arian. Near Llanfair Talhaearn it meets the River Elwy on its eastern edge. Reservoirs on the Aled regulate both rivers. In the Middle Ages the Aled formed the boundary between Commotes and the two parts of Aled. The Rhyl and St Angling Association controls fishing along a long stretch of the river on both banks near Bryn Rhyd-yr-arian. The waterway has shaped local land divisions for centuries. Visitors find quiet countryside beside the Aled. The riverbanks offer gentle walks through farmland and woodland. Views open across Mynydd Hiraethog’s slopes to the north. Fishing platforms mark spots where anglers cast their lines. The landscape remains largely unspoilt, with only the occasional farmhouse breaking the skyline.
