Polanten Castle Outer Ward Farm

Bleimerschloß stands on a spur of land pointing northeast above the Heimbach valley in Mittelfranken. The site once held a medieval spur castle built by the Lords of Buch in the 12th century. After changing hands several times, the castle passed to the Morsbach family in the 14th century and remained with them until 1507. By the early 16th century it had become a simple farm, later owned by a farmer named Bleymer. The castle was defended by two erosion gullies on west and east sides and the deep Heimbach valley on the north. A ring wall enclosed the site, and only a small rectangular tower at the eastern corner survives, its foundations reaching five metres below ground. The rest of the buildings were removed long ago, though medieval cellars are said to remain beneath the present farm buildings. Today the former bailey is occupied by a working farm whose 19th- and early 20th-century buildings occupy the old castle precinct. The surrounding landscape falls away steeply to the Heimbach, offering quiet views across the valley. The place is registered as a Bavarian monument and can be reached along quiet country lanes east of Greding.
