Landshut Residence
The Stadtresidenz Landshut is a palace in Landshut, a city in Lower Bavaria. It stands in the inner city, close to the river Isar. The palace has two main parts: the German building and the Italian building. The German building was begun in 1536 under Duke Louis X. The Italian building followed in 1537, inspired by a trip to Italy. Both buildings were connected by two wings. The palace is worth visiting for its architectural styles and historical details. The German building shows German Renaissance style, while the Italian building reflects Italian Renaissance style. The Italian building was the first of its kind north of the Alps. Artists like Hermanus Posthumus and Hans Bocksberger the Elder decorated the rooms. Italian stucco artists also contributed to the palace’s interiors. A visitor finds the Residence Museum inside the palace. The museum includes the halls of the Italian building and the Birkenfeld Rooms. The Birkenfeld Rooms feature early wallpaper from the early 19th century. The palace chapel and the spacious courtyard are also part of the visit. The surroundings include the river Isar nearby.
