Kramsach, Pfarrkirche hl. Nikolaus

The Nikolauskirche stands east of Voldöpp’s centre in the village of Kramsach, Tirol, at 520 metres above sea level. It is a late-Gothic church built on earlier foundations first recorded in 1262. After belonging to Breitenbach am Inn, it became an independent parish in 1891. The building was later enlarged and remodelled in the 18th century and again in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The church is protected as a listed monument and belongs to the Archdiocese of Salzburg. Inside, the four-bay nave is divided by pilasters and covered with a flat barrel vault. Behind a round-arched chancel arch lies a narrow one-bay choir with a five-sided apse, its Gothic vault rising from wall shafts and corbels. The west gallery, supported on marble columns, carries a Baroque organ installed by the Mauracher brothers in 1896. The high altar, dating from the early 1700s, is attributed to Jakob Mayr and shows the figures of Saint Nicholas flanked by Joachim and Anna. The Nikolauskirche’s exterior is plain, with a continuous plinth carved with miners’ insignia of hammer and pick. The south portal has a pointed arch, while the west tower, added in 1859, rises to a pointed spire. Inside, the Stations of the Cross panels date from around 1800, and the left side altar displays the venerated image of Mariahilf beneath a canopy. Four bells cast by Grassmayr of Innsbruck ring from the tower’s belfry.
