The Sensemble Theatre is an Augsburg theatre run by a non-profit association. It began in 1996 with freelance actors, directors and designers who wanted to encourage creative work. The theatre’s first chairman was the playwright and director Sebastian Seidel. Today it operates as a non-profit limited company supported by a circle of friends.

The company performs on a small open-air stage inside the old city wall at the Jakoberwallturm. This medieval tower courtyard was converted by the Historical Citizen Guild into rising rows of seats for summer shows. From June to August the theatre stages plays there. Since 2009 it has also run a summer festival in Martini Park with international theatre-sport contests.

Inside the city the theatre has its own indoor stage in the Kulturfabrik arts centre. It presents speech, music, improvisation and physical theatre as well as performances and installations. The programme includes new works by Seidel and others, and the theatre co-organises the Augsburg playwright prize.
