Karden- und Heimatmuseum Katsdorf

The Karden- and Heimatmuseum Katsdorf stands in the old schoolhouse by the church square in Katsdorf, a village in the Perg district of Upper Austria. The building itself dates back to the time when Katsdorf was a farming community before industrialisation. The museum opened in 1988 under the direction of the local heritage association. Its focus is the history of the village and the region’s former linen trade, especially the cultivation and processing of the teasel plant. The museum is worth the journey because it preserves objects that tell the story of everyday life. Five display rooms show prehistoric finds from the area, tools used in flax farming, and implements of rural crafts. A special section is devoted to the teasel, a plant once grown here to raise the nap on woven cloth. The collection also includes relics from the First and Second World Wars and a reconstructed schoolroom from the early 20th century. Visitors walk through rooms arranged by theme. One room displays farming implements, another shows the stages of flax preparation, and a third contains tools once used in the local brickworks. The schoolroom gives a glimpse of classroom life in the 1930s. Outside, the church square offers a quiet place to rest after the visit.
