Manod Mawr North Top

Manod Mawr North Top is a mountain in North Wales and part of the Moelwynion range. It stands north of its parent peak, Manod Mawr, separated by the Graig Ddu Quarry. The quarry’s steep sides make crossing it risky for walkers heading to the main summit. Old mine adits dot the northern slopes, adding to the area’s rugged feel. There were once concerns that the top itself might be quarried away.
The mountain is worth the journey for those who enjoy remote, quiet uplands. Its position gives wide views over Snowdonia and the surrounding valleys. The contrast between the wild summit and the worked-out quarry below is striking. Walkers who reach the top find a simple trig point marking the highest point. The sense of space and isolation is strong here.
A visitor finds a narrow ridge leading to the summit, with loose rock underfoot. The view north takes in the Carneddau and the Conwy valley. To the south, the Moelwyn mountains stretch away. The old quarry scars the land below, a reminder of past industry. The wind often blows across the top, adding to the feeling of being far from towns.
