Heimatmuseum Seckbach
The Heimatmuseum Seckbach stands in Frankfurt’s eastern district of Seckbach, inside the former pedellhaus of the old Zentgrafenschule. The half-timbered building faces Wilhelmshöher Straße and shares the school grounds with the 18th-century Marienkirche and the earlier Lutheran schoolhouse. Its ground floor now holds changing displays while the upper rooms remain an archive run by the local history society. The museum’s exhibits trace Seckbach from its first mention in 880 to the First World War. A later display covers the 20th-century transformation from village to city quarter. Another room is devoted to local farming and the once-thriving vineyards that supplied the Frankfurt Carmelite monastery until secularisation in 1803. The society also publishes research twice yearly and organises talks and guided walks. Visitors walk through rooms that combine original school fittings with modern display cases. Photographs, diaries and maps donated by residents line the walls. Outside, the nearby church and schoolhouse complete the historical setting, while the Lohrberger Hang vineyard on the city’s edge keeps alive Seckbach’s wine-growing past.
