1. Deutsches Toyota-Museum
The 1. Deutsches Toyota-Museum stood in Hartkirchen, a district of Pocking in Lower Bavaria. It opened in 1994 under the direction of Peter Pichert, one of Germany’s earliest Toyota dealers. Pichert began collecting used Toyotas in 1971 and built a collection of 120 cars. The museum ran six days a week and hosted an annual classic-car meet. After Pichert’s death in 2016, Toyota Germany took the entire fleet to its own collection in Cologne. Among the exhibits were more than 120 cars plus three trucks, a bus and fifteen engines. Highlights included a 1967 Toyota 2000 GT, a Land Cruiser once owned by Roger Moore and a WRC Corolla driven by Carlos Sainz senior. The display ranged from early models like the 1953 VW Beetle and a Velorex three-wheeler to later cars such as the Prius and Supra. Every major Toyota model from the 1960s to the 1990s was represented. Visitors could also see engines that powered these vehicles. The museum occupied a single hall in Hartkirchen. Inside, cars were arranged chronologically along wide aisles. Spotlights highlighted the 2000 GT and other star exhibits. Outside, the building sat among quiet streets in a small Bavarian town. After closing in 2017, the site returned to ordinary use, leaving only memories of the collection.
