Compagnie de Comédie Rostock

The Compagnie de Comédie Rostock is an independent theatre in the Hanseatic city on the Warnow river. It occupies a converted warehouse in the old port area, known as Bühne 602, where plays have been staged since July 1991. The company was founded by nine local artists, including Joachim Lemke and Martina Witte, who still leads the ensemble today. Each year it presents around two hundred performances, touring widely across Germany. In summer the group moves to the open-air stage at the Kloster Zum Heiligen Kreuz for its June-to-August season. The theatre is recognised for its bold premieres, often created with leading figures such as Hans-Peter Minetti and Peter Bause. Its programme ranges from classical drama and schlager evenings to children’s shows and literary readings. It also hosts the Rostocker Koggenzieher, a well-known regional cabaret prize. Through school theatre projects the company gives young people a chance to work professionally on stage. Visitors find a working theatre with a small but busy office and technical team. The stage is equipped for light, sound and set changes by staff including Dirk Weinert and Stefan Schmidt. Guest performers such as Cathrin Bürger and Manfred Gorr regularly appear alongside permanent company members. Behind the scenes, ten part-time workers build sets, handle publicity and manage front-of-house duties. The theatre also trains apprentices in stage technology, linking every visit to an active centre of creative work.
