Theater im Depot

Theater im Depot is a theatre in Dortmund, housed in a former tram depot on Immermannstraße. The building belongs to a protected arts and culture centre that also contains a cinema, artist studios and a gallery. The theatre’s industrial setting makes it a lively venue for the ExtraSchicht festival. Since 2021 Jens Heitjohann has led the theatre’s artistic direction. It presents around ten in-house productions each year alongside roughly 120 events, including festivals of free theatre from across North Rhine-Westphalia. A theatre and dance workshop for young people won second prize in the Jugend.Kultur.Preis.NRW in 2012. Visitors find a 250-seat auditorium where productions are staged. The adjoining workshops and studios mean rehearsals and creative work are always visible. The complex’s mix of theatre, film and visual arts offers a varied cultural experience in a single location.
