Krahbergzinken

The Krahbergzinken rises in the Schladminger Tauern, a chain of the Niedere Tauern in the Austrian Alps. It stands near the border between Styria and Salzburg, on the western edge of the Schladming municipal area. The mountain is one of several peaks that stretch north from the main ridge, passing the Hochwildstelle and Ulmspitze before reaching the Krahbergzinken and finally the Planai. The climb rewards walkers with wide views across the Schladming valleys and surrounding ranges. The route usually starts at the top station of the Planaibahn cable-car at 1 813 m. From the Schladminger Hütte the path crosses or skirts the Planai before reaching the Krahbergsattel col. The final ascent to the summit takes about an hour and a half. Those who wish to extend the day can include the nearby Seerieszinken. A high-level trail, the Schladminger-Tauern-Höhenweg, passes along the ridge above the Krahbergzinken. From the same ridge walkers can follow trail 779 down to the Preintalerhütte and continue into the Riesachtal. The summit itself offers open meadows and rocky outcrops with panoramic views of the Tauern peaks.
