Filialkirche hl. Nikolaus, Kraschach, Hermagor

The Filialkirche Kraschach is a small Roman Catholic church in Hermagor, southern Austria. It stands under Denkmalschutz and is dedicated to Saint Nicholas. The building combines Romanesque and Gothic styles, with a lower, recessed choir and a small bell tower. A 14th-century fresco of Saint Christopher adorns the south wall. The west door is a Gothic pointed arch with iron fittings.
The church is worth visiting for its well-preserved medieval art and craftsmanship. A late-14th-century crucifixion fresco survives on the north wall of the choir. The main altar was carved in 1736 by Mathias Stüber. Earlier pieces include carved figures of Saint Nicholas and a Madonna made around 1506 by the Villach workshop. Side altars and a 17th-century oil painting of Saint Anthony add to its rural charm.
Inside, the flat-roofed nave is decorated with early-Baroque stucco cornices. A wide pointed arch opens into the rib-vaulted choir. Round-arched windows let in soft light. The left altar holds a Gothic shrine with a painted Baroque frame and a Lourdes Madonna. The pulpit dates from the early 18th century. Simple farmhouse paintings of saints from the 17th and 18th centuries complete the interior.
