Theatr Brycheiniog

Theatr Brycheiniog is an arts venue in the centre of Brecon, Powys. It stands on Canal Wharf beside the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, where narrowboats moor beside the building. The theatre is built of red brick with a Welsh-slate roof, designed to look like a traditional canal warehouse. Inside, a 477-seat auditorium hosts plays and live performances. A conference centre, gallery, bar and restaurant share the same red-brick and slate style. The theatre regularly presents elements of the Brecon Jazz Festival alongside stand-up comedians, folk singers and orchestras. International groups such as the Berlin Philharmonic wind quartet have performed there, as well as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Rachel Podger is the current patron, following the late director Michael Bogdanov. Visitors find views across the Brecon Beacons National Park from the theatre’s windows. The bar and restaurant overlook the canal, where boats pass by during the day. The gallery shows local and touring exhibitions, while the conference rooms host community meetings and private events. The building’s canal-side setting makes it a quiet yet lively place to spend an evening.
