Grabenkarspitze
The Grabenkarspitze is a 2471-metre peak in the Karwendel range of Tirol. It stands in the eastern part of the Northern Karwendel chain, close to the Karwendelhaus. The first ascent was made in 1870 by Hermann von Barth. The mountain’s slopes rise above alpine meadows and rugged limestone ridges. Snow often lingers on the north faces well into summer. Its remote setting keeps the approach free of crowds. The climb demands a full day from valley villages, taking seven hours from Scharnitz or six from Hinterriß via the Kleine Ahornboden. Most hikers choose to break the journey with an overnight stay at Karwendelhaus. From there the route crosses the Hochalmsattel and Lackenkar before tackling the East or South ridge, both graded UIAA I. In winter the same path becomes a ski tour with steep descents. On the summit visitors find a narrow limestone crest with views across the Inn valley to the Central Alps. The Karwendelhaus below offers basic dormitory beds and meals. Alpine flowers colour the slopes in July and August. The air remains cool even on hot days. The route back follows the same ridges, returning to the hut in fading light.
